Saying "Ya Muhammad" or "Ya Rasool Allah"

I recently came upon this issue and realized it was one of great importance, since I saw it in practice when I was in Pakistan. Is it permissible to say "Ya Muahammad" (O Muhammad)? I decided to research the topic and came out with the following response, which seemed quite convincing.

Can we say like ya Muhammad to our prophet?.

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

It was not permissible to address the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) by saying “Ya Muhammad” during his lifetime, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Make not the calling of the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) among you as your calling one of another”

[al-Noor 24:63].

Al-Dahhaak said, narrating from Ibn ‘Abbaas: They used to say Ya Muhammad, Ya Aba’l-Qaasim, but Allaah told them not to do that, out of respect to His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). So they said Ya Rasool Allaah (O Messenger of Allaah), Ya Nabi Allaah (O Prophet of Allaah). Mujaahid and Sa’eed ibn Jubayr said something similar.

Qataadah said: Allaah enjoined that His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) should be treated with respect and venerated and honoured as a leader. Muqaatil ibn Hayyaan said: Do not address him by name when you call him and say Ya Muhammad, and do not say Ya Ibn ‘Abd-Allaah. Rather address him with honour and say Ya Nabi Allaah or Ya Rasool Allaah.

Maalik said, narrating from Zayd ibn Aslam: Allaah enjoined them to address him with honour.

So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) should not be addressed by name only, rather it should be said: Ya Rasool Allaah, Ya Nabi Allaah.

Secondly:

It is not permissible to call on the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in du’aa’ after his death, because du’aa’ is an act of worship that can only be directed to Allaah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And the mosques are for Allaah (Alone), so invoke not anyone along with Allaah”

[al-Jinn 72:13]

“And who is more astray than one who calls  on (invokes) besides Allaah, such as will not answer him till the Day of Resurrection, and who are (even) unaware of their calls (invocations) to them?”

I'm sure there is a counter "argument" to this, which is why I am posting this.

Insha'Allah nobody will come back with to counter this because it is as clear as day. The thing we say in every prayer: "iyaaka na'abudu wa iyaaka nesta'een" - You alone do you worship and You alone do we turn to for help" from Surat al Fatiha is the perfect proof. We ONLY call on Allah, subhaana wa taala, and we ONLY turn to Him for help and guidance.

In the last ayat of Surat Al Mulk, when Allah, swt, asks the Prophet Muhammad, saw, "Tell Me! If all your water were to be sunk away, who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?"  There is no power or might except Allah, subhaana wa taala. There is nothing and nobody we can call on except Him for any of our needs or rizq (sustenance). Calling on others in such a way, or in the way of the Shia when they say Ya Ali, Ya Hussain is pure SHIRK.

Jazaak Allahu khayran for your post.

it really surprised me, because in pakistan, every where you see, they have Ya Allah, and then right next to it, they have Ya Muhammad, i found this really wrong, just one of the few innovations in noticed there...

just to make those who say ya rasul or ya nabi is shirk,

1st of all, do you see our beloved prophet as died? theres a verse or hadith that says that prophets are alive in the resting places. then theres another verse is surah baqorah saying that, do not think that those who are killed(shahid) in the way of Allah is dead, infact they are alive but you(we that still 'so called' alive in this world) do not feel it. if those verses saying that those ppl are alive, what more of the highest status person among the creation?? go think abt it.

2nd, did not we say in our tahiyyat 'assalamualaika ayyuhan nabiyyu warahmtullahi wabarakatu' . aint we say our salam our our prophet? so the 'dead' thing haf t0 be address to those that are thinking that they are more alive than our beloved prophet is....

wallahu warasuluhu a`lam......

THE REVILATION OF THIS BOOK (THE QUR'AN) IS FROM ALLAH, THE ALL-MIGHTY, THE ALL-WISE. VERILY WE HAVE SENT DOWN THE BOOK TO YOU (O MUHAMMAD S.A.S.) IN TRUTH: SO WORSHIP ALLAH (ALONE) BY DOING RELIGIOUS DEEDS SINCERELY FOR ALLAH'S SAKE ONLY. SURELY THE RELIGION (i.e. THE WORSHIP AND OBEDIENCE) IS FOR ALLAH ONLY. AND THOSE WHO TAKE AULIYA (PROTECTORS, HELPERS,LORDS,GODS) BESIDES HIM (SAY): "WE WORSHIP THEM ONLY THAT THEY MAY BRING US NEAR TO ALLAH." VERILY ALLAH WILL JUDGE BETWEEN THEM CONCERNING THAT WHEREIN THEY DIFFER. TRULY, ALLAH GUIDES NOT HIM WHO IS LIAR, AND DISBELIVER. (39-1,3)
SAY (O MUHAMMAD S.A.S.): "I INVOKE ONLY MY LORD (ALLAH ALONE), AND I ASSOCIATE NONE AS PARTNERS ALONG WITH HIM."
SAY: "IT IS NOT IN MY POWER TO CAUSE YOU HARM, OR TO BRING YOU TO THE RIGHT PATH." (72-20,21)
"AND INVOKE NOT BESIDES ALLAH ANY SUCH THAT WILL NEITHER PROFIT YOU NOR HARM YOU, BUT IF (INCASE) YOU DID SO, YOU SHALL CERTAINLY BE ONE OF THE ZALIMUN (POLYTHEISTS AND WRONG-DOERS" (10-106)
...VERILY, WHOSOEVER SETS UP PARTNERS (IN WORSHIP) WITH  ALLAH, THEN ALLAH HAS FORBIDDEN PARADISE TO HIM, AND THE FIRE WILL BE HIS ABODE. AND FOR THE ZALIMUN THERE ARE NO HELPERS. (5-72)
"HE, WHO DIES WHILE PRAYING TO SOMEONE AS RIVAL TO ALLAH, REWARD FOR SUCH A PERSON SHALL BE THE FIRE OF HELL."
