Menstruation questions... (brothers beware!)
Asalaamu alaikum,
Hopefully someone here can clarify this for me. I've read through "Natural Blood of Women" by Shayekh Muhammed bin Salih Al-Utheimeen, but I am still confused.
I have been spotting off and on for the past few days, the first time it was enough to show up on a pad, the times since then it has just been when I wiped that I noticed it. The day that it showed up on the pad I had already broken my fast for the day, so I didn't fast the next day, and it seemed to go away, so the following day I started fasting again. I have been fasting since then, as the only time I seem to notice the faint tinge of blood is at night, and it's never enough to warrant wearing a pad, it's just something I notice on occasion when I wipe.
I don't have regular periods, so I don't know if this is the normal time for my menses or not, which seems to be one of the deciding factors in the "Natural Blood" book.
So I guess my question is, if you were spotting and not sure if it was your menses or not, but it was not heavy enough to require any sort of pad or other menstrual product, would you continue fasting?
Thanks!

Salammm,
well..im kinda confused here lol. I have read a book on mensturaion and it was said that Aisha (Radia Allah unha) said to wait and not pray or fast till you see the white discharge. So I would wait till I was shure no more would come lol. But you said you don't have normal periodS?? yeah..confiusing part. But if its on and off then just wait till you would of finshed ur cycle you know 5 to 7 days.=D

Well, what i mean by not having normal periods, is that some months I don't have any bleeding at all, and that can go on for as many as six months. This time, for instance, I haven't had any bleeding for 2 months. So I will wipe and see a slight bit of blood one day, then nothing the rest of the day or the next day, then the following day I will have a little blood, then nothing until two days later... you get the idea. I don't know if it's a period or not because I have no idea when would be the normal time for me to have one because I get them so rarely. Does that make sense? :)

) it too wasn't enough to wear anything, but i knew it was there. even though my fast was not valid, i did it anyway so as not to get out of the habit. cuz, i felt like it did not benefit me to eat when i would have to continue the fast and make up the days later. it's harder to recover (for me at least) when you break the habit and eat when you are supposed to be fasting. 24 Sep 2008, 3:10 am
Yes I have, thank you for asking :)

I'm with DeenRight on this. I read a great deal about it and had a situation in Ramadan similar to it. Any blood that isn't fully flowing and that doesn't have the smell of menstrual blood is considered istihada (bleeding from a vein or similar) and fasting, prayer, etc. should be observed. You should change your pad, underwear when you make a fresh wudhu, but continue as normal. You will have to make up the days you didn't fast afterwards.
It's quite a business being female, isn't it? The brother's don't have any of this messy stuff to wonder about. Al hamdu l'Illah!

It sounds to me as if your hormones (I hope it is appropriate to talk about that here?) might be a little messed up. I would suggest that if you can you go on birth control pills for a couple of months. That should get them back to where they should be.
If it continues you really need to see a doctor though, as there are some problems associated with bleeding like that.
