When did you know?

Assalaamu alaikum sisters! Just wanted to ask you all a question that has been asked a million times over, I am sure. Lately, I personally have been doing some groing in my faith and have been chinging a lot of my personal habits. I took shahadah in Januaray, but have not been brave enough to wear "hijab". I do cover my hair, and I dress modestly. But lately, I feel more and more pressed to to wear hijab. I have bought some Islamic clothes, and square, and amira hijabs, but I rarely get to wear them because I am a single mommy with 2 jobs. But I do look forward to those far a few moments when I get to make prayer in congregation so I can donn these special garments. What I wanted to ask you ladies was, when did you know that the time had come for you to donn you hijab for EVERY place you went? How was it recieved at work? At the grocery store? At the mall? How did you feel? Share all your thoughts! Thanks for helping me in sticking to my decision to wear hijab!!

Wishing you all peace and blessings abounding from The Beneficent One!!

as salaam alakium mubarak on your reversion .  i started wearing it the day i took shahada and then niqabing  in june 25 2008 because i felt it was time and the right thing to do . i think there comes a time when we shouldnt care how a person perceives us  because we are pleasing Allah Subhan wa taala more . yes ppl will judge you and ask  questions but think about all the questions Allah Subhan wa taala will as you at judgement day . i fear Allah Subhan wa taala much more then the dunya ppl . so for me that was the turning point to cover everything may Allah Subhan wa taala make it easy for you ameen

I cannot answer your question, but wanted to say that even though I am not a Muslim, I would look at you no differently for it. Perhaps people will ask you questions, but if you feel it is the right thing to do I think it is the right thing for you...

welcome to your family and may you be steadfast in your belief and be rewarded with best of both worlds. ameen

I was born as a muslim but did not practice till i was 18 and then I realized I do not live for people and they can't do anything to me unless that is Allah's will... so that was it I started wearing full hijab and since then I have not taken it off...

well...ppl are gonna stare at you no matter what.
When it comes to pleasing people you can never do it, someone will always be unhappy with something that you do. When it comes to pleasing Allah(swt) and subsequently yourself...it is sooo easy.

I love my hijab! It was by far the best decision of my life...i love it and I love for others to see me in it...when I first started wearing it I never wanted to take it off even when I got home lol, and my father would make me b/c my head needed to "breath"lol...Alhamdulillah.

salam sister.... Welcome to Islam

i was born as a muslim allhamdullilah... but didnt start practicing untill 16 or so.... i know EXACTLY how u feell.... ive been in ur position many times before... i was always in doubt.... but trust me as soon as you put that garment on your head and and cover ur body... you will absolutely not care about what poeple think of you... because deep down ur heart u know that the one who is pleased with you is ALLAH (SWT).

Now i know the most best decision i have ever made in my life was to strart wearing the hijab.... it may be the whispers of the shaytaan that is stopping you from wearing it... there is nothign like covering urself and wearing a hijab...,, Today one of my nightmares would be taking of my hijab or showing my hair..... im so attachd to my hijab that i LOVE IT!!!!!!!! allhamdullilah.

It is what Allah has commanded all us women to wear .... Allah has told us to obey him.. and by wearing the hijab we are following one of his commands...

May Allah guide you ... and may Allah show u the right way ... Ameen

ASA sister welcome to the family. I started wearing the hijab when I was in my second year in the university, yes it was difficult at first but once you get used to it you wont mind the snide remarks or strange looks. I've been wearing it (leaving only my face and hands open) for over four years now and no way I cant leave home witout it even at home wen there are non-mahram males around I wear it all the tym. I never knew ppl cared about the feet or even noticed it till I started covering mine. even now that I'm working I get remarks like " why are you dressing like a masquerade or why cover up let ppl see how beautiful you are" but once you always remember Allah, and keep it at the back of ur mind that the moment you give in cld be the moment death decides to visit I think U'll be able to overcome all.
